A new lease of life for Spirou
For the past eight years, Olivier Schwartz and Yann have been breathing new life into Spirou, a leading character in the world of comic art. Combining biting humor, irreverence, and clear lines, the duo has already produced three successful albums in the Le Spirou de... series published by Dupuis: Le Groom vert-de-gris (the Green-Grey Bellboy) in 2009 (volume 5), La Femme Léopard, (The Leopard Woman) in 2014 (volume 7) and Le Maître des hosties noires (The Master of the Black Hosts) in 2017 (volume 11).
Olivier Schwartz has made the heroes of the timeless Spirou and Fantasio series his own, drawing inspiration from classic Franco-Belgian authors such as Jijé, Franquin, and Morris. The exhibition and sale showcases around forty black-and-white pages from these three albums. It reveals the graphic virtuosity of this artist, who is capable of creating the most dynamic and detailed compositions, combining the finesse of his line with strong inking. Color illustrations created especially for the event will also delight fans of the series. Finally, the exhibition presents pages and artworks published in Le Journal de Spirou in tribute to Gil Jourdan, Gaston Lagaffe, Johan et Pirlouit as well as Morris and Uderzo.
