Gil Jourdan

Created by Maurice Tillieux, Gil Jourdan carried out his first investigation for Spirou magazine in 1956. Assisted by Libellule, a former burglar with nimble fingers, and the honest Inspector Crouton, Jourdan solves complex cases and faces all kinds of dangers with humor. This is what makes Gil Jourdan such a unique series: its creator was among the first to introduce humor into crime comic strips. With a visual style halfway between the Clear Line tradition of Brussels and the Marcinelle school, Tillieux crafted meticulously constructed plots inspired by classic detective novels, while giving a prominent place to comedy. This balance makes the series an absolute benchmark of comic art.
