Ralph Meyer: Master of Realism and Contemporary Western

Born in Paris in 1971, Ralph Meyer developed a passion for drawing at a very young age. At the age of twenty, he enrolled in illustration and comic art courses at the Institut Saint-Luc in Liège. In 1996, he presented his artwork to screenwriter Philippe Tome, who proposed a particularly dark story. A year later, the first volume of the Berceuse assassine (Assassination Lullaby) trilogy was published (Dargaud). In the meantime, he co-founded the Parfois j'ai dur studio, together with other authors. There, he co-illustrated the graphic novel Des Lendemains sans nuages (Cloud-free Futures) with his colleague Bruno Gazzotti, based on a script by Fabien Vehlmann. Again with Fabien Vehlmann, he launched the four-volume science fiction series Ian (published by Dargaud) in 2003. In 2008, he collaborated with Xavier Dorison on the first volume of the XIII Mystery series (published by Dargaud), chronicling the life of the Mongoose, for which he received the Prix Saint-Michel in Brussels. In 2010, he achieved a significant artistic turning point with the release of Page noire (Black Page, published by Futuropolis), a one-shot written by Denis Lapière and Frank Giroud. In 2012, he reunited with Xavier Dorison for the two-part series Asgard (published by Dargaud), which immersed him in Nordic landscapes. In 2014, Xavier and Ralph, joined by Caroline Delabie for the coloring, launched a new hit series, Undertaker (published by Dargaud), the sixth volume of which is set to be released in 2021.

For me, Ralph Meyer cannot be summed up in just a few words. But the ones that immediately come to mind are: a powerful atmosphere, impeccable composition, and, to put it simply, instant appeal.
