The Daniel Maghen Gallery is delighted to welcome Ralph Meyer for an exhibition dedicated to the Undertaker series, written by Xavier Dorison and colored by Caroline Delabie and Ralph Meyer, published by Dargaud.

A Western worthy of Giraud

Praised by critics from the very first album, Le Mangeur d'or (the Gold Eater), Undertaker immediately took its place among the series that have marked the genre: Blueberry, Comanche and Mac Coy. Ralph Meyer, Caroline Delabie and Xavier Dorison have made this two-part series a very personal work and breathed new life into the Western genre, embracing classicism while retaining some modernity. The series features all the genre's tropes: blood, sweat and tears, strong characters without falling into the easy trap of stereotype, and Jed, the undertaker's feathered mascot.

Following exhibitions in May 2012 and March 2013, the Daniel Maghen Gallery welcomes back Ralph Meyer at the peak of his artistic powers. The collection of originals, nearly fifty pages created with a brush and India ink, showcases the full extent of the artist's skill. His bold, precise lines, enhanced by powerful inking, perfectly capture the harshness of the Wild West. The frenetic pace of the narrative, served by effective framing, is reminiscent of spaghetti westerns. It is also worth noting that, for the first time, the artist has signed two acrylic paintings on canvas created for the exhibition, one of which will be used as the cover for the deluxe edition of La Danse des vautours (The Dance of the Vultures).

Daniel Maghen, Ralph Meyer, Caroline Delabie, Xavier Dorison and Editions Dargaud are delighted to invite you to the opening on Friday, April 22, 2016, at 7:00 p.m.
