Vincent Mallié

Chosen by Régis Loisel to succeed him on La Quête de l’Oiseau du Temps, Vincent Mallié is also the brilliant artist behind the Le Grand Mort series and the Ténébreuse diptych (with Hubert, the scriptwriter of Peau d’Homme), a brilliant illustrator (Arsène Lupin, Sherlock Holmes…) and a children’s author (Chevalier Léon…). Vincent Mallié’s work stands out for its graphic virtuosity as well as his unrivalled talent as a watercolourist. With his realistic style, combining a supple and expressive line, a flair for staging and framing, and a delicate colour palette, Vincent Mallié has proven himself to be one of the most gifted illustrators of his generation.

In 2024, Maison Daniel Maghen Enchères organised the very first auction dedicated to Vincent Mallié in Paris, with exceptional results exceeding estimates. The top lot was the original artwork no. 66 from the series La Quête de l’Oiseau du temps – Avant la quête (Vol. 3), estimated at €4,000 and sold for €10,660 including VAT. The artist enjoys a strong reputation amongst collectors thanks to his series Le Grand Mort and his adaptation of La Quête de l’Oiseau du Temps, based on Régis Loisel’s work. The world record for this artist is held by a painting from La Quête de l’Oiseau du Temps, which sold for €11,250 (estimate €10,000) at auction in 2016.

To preserve your works on paper, we recommend that you never expose them to direct light, as UV rays can damage the mediums used. Paintings made with pastel or charcoal require special care to avoid rubbing. Works containing watercolor are particularly sensitive to light, unlike gouache and acrylic.
We advise you to display them away from windows, and to use frames made from pH-neutral conservation materials and “Museum” glass with anti-UV and anti-reflective treatment. If you prefer to keep your works unframed, we recommend storing them flat, in drawing cartons, with sheets of pH-neutral permanent paper in between. Keep them away from light and humidity.

A French author, cartoonist and illustrator born in Paris in 1973, Vincent Mallié began his career in comics in 1996 and created his first series, Hong Kong Triad (1998–2000) and Les Aquanautes (2000–2006), with Joël Parnotte as scriptwriter, first published by Le Téméraire and later by Soleil. He followed this with L’Arche, alongside Jérôme Félix (2003–2005) published by Soleil, before making his mark in the fantasy genre with Le Grand Mort, with Régis Loisel and Djian (2007–2019), a series of eight volumes published by Vents d’Ouest. Impressed by his talent, Loisel entrusted him with the continuation of the famous series La Quête de l’oiseau du temps (Dargaud) alongside Serge Le Tendre. He produced three volumes, including the final instalment in 2024. Together with Hubert (Peau d’homme), he created the two-part series Ténébreuse (2021–2022, Dupuis). Also an illustrator, since 2021 he has been illustrating classics (Arsène Lupin, Sherlock Holmes, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde) and has also published his own children’s books (La Folle et incroyable aventure du chevalier Léon, Jack, les pirates et la grande aventure and Edmond gros mouton) for L’École des Loisirs. His work is regularly exhibited at the Galerie Daniel Maghen.
