La Quête de l'Oiseau du Temps

Black and white original page, Colored illustration, Cover

Loisel and Le Tendre met during a comic art course at the University of Vincennes. A providential encounter that almost immediately gave birth to the story’s starting point: a bird, which would become the famous Oiseau du Temps (Time Bird). The main quest of the series (1998, Dargaud), the Oiseau du Temps is the only element capable of permanently sealing the conch in which the evil god Ramor is imprisoned, as he prepares to escape. An essential classic of comic art, the series owes its success to its flawed heroes, its richly crafted storyline that subtly blends epic adventure, humor, emotion, and reflections on time, as well as its lively and expressive artwork. Far beyond its success, La Quête de l'Oiseau du Temps paved the way for an entire generation of French fantasy creators, and its prequel, the result of a collaboration with several artists, stands as a beautiful example of creative legacy and transmission.
