Patrice Pellerin

Author, illustrator and scriptwriter, Patrice Pellerin is one of the greatest contemporary masters of maritime comic books.
He is the sole creator of the series L’Épervier, now regarded as an essential classic of the genre. His work is characterised by exceptional documentary rigour, which lends his illustrations a striking sense of realism.

Launched in 1994, L’Épervier is an epic historical adventure set between mainland France and French Guiana. Thanks to this series, Pellerin has established himself as a true expert on the year 1742 in France. In particular, he has a perfect command of the architecture and details of the Palace of Versailles, which he depicts with remarkable precision in his illustrations.

Ships, costumes, settings, weaponry… every historical element is the subject of rigorous research. This commitment to accuracy has won over both history enthusiasts and historians themselves, who regularly call upon him for reconstructions when iconographic sources are lacking. A must-read.

Patrice Pellerin enjoys a strong reputation in the comic book market, driven by the success of his series L’Épervier and recognition of his commitment to historical and artistic accuracy. His original artwork is highly sought after, as are his covers – which can fetch over €20,000 – and his rare colour illustrations, which showcase his remarkable talent as a watercolourist. As his output is very limited – one album every five years – his works have become particularly rare and valuable. He has been the subject of several exhibitions at the Galerie Daniel Maghen, as well as a ‘white-glove’ auction in 2022 at Daniel Maghen Enchères, an event at which all the works on offer were sold. His work is regularly featured in specialist comic book auctions, confirming the interest of collectors.

To ensure that your pages are kept in good condition, we recommend that you never expose them to direct light, as UV rays can damage the media used to produce them. Although Indian ink is a perennial material, the paper support may change when exposed to UV light. Note that watercolor plates require special attention, as this medium is particularly sensitive to light. Pieces containing pastel or charcoal require special care to avoid rubbing.
We advise you to display them away from windows, and to use frames made of pH-neutral conservation materials and “Museum” glass with anti-UV and anti-reflective treatment. If you prefer to keep your works unframed, we recommend storing them flat, in drawing cartons, with sheets of pH-neutral permanent paper in between. Keep them away from light and humidity
