Riff Reb's

Driven by a black-and-white style that exudes extraordinary expressiveness and skillfully employs two-color printing, Riff Reb’s has established himself as one of the major creators of the past decade, acclaimed by both critics and the public.  

Fans of seascapes and piracy know exactly what they’re looking for: Riff Reb’s work is considered the gold standard in the field thanks to his powerful style, which transports the viewer with just a few brushstrokes. Two original pieces offered at auctions in partnership with Christie’s exceeded their estimates and sold for €4,750 in April 2014 and €8,750 in March 2015. This success was confirmed in 2021 at the Daniel Maghen Enchères et Expertise auction sale, where L’Abordage (The Boarding) sold for €7,150—nearly double its estimate. 

To ensure that your pages are kept in good condition, we recommend that you never expose them to direct light, as UV rays can damage the media used to produce them. Although Indian ink is a perennial material, the paper support may change when exposed to UV light. Note that watercolor plates require special attention, as this medium is particularly sensitive to light. Pieces containing pastel or charcoal require special care to avoid rubbing.
We advise you to display them away from windows, and to use frames made of pH-neutral conservation materials and “Museum” glass with anti-UV and anti-reflective treatment. If you prefer to keep your works unframed, we recommend storing them flat, in drawing cartons, with sheets of pH-neutral permanent paper in between. Keep them away from light and humidity

Dominique Duprez, known as Riff Reb's, trained at the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris before co-founding the Atelier Asylum with Arthur Qwak in 1984, a creative hub that quickly brought together Cromwell, Édith, and several other artists. Their first joint project, the animated series Les Mondes Engloutis (Spartakus and the Sun beneath the Sea), opened the doors to the Ninth Art for him with works such as Le Bal de la sueur (The Sweat Ball), Aaargl, La Crève (The Sickness), and Myrtil Fauvette. Within a few years, he established himself as one of the leading figures of a new school of comic art, blending dynamic visuals with an irreverent tone. Starting in 2009, his career took off in earnest with his adaptation of À bord de l’Étoile Matutine (On Board the Morning Star, based on Mac Orlan), followed by Loup des Mers (The Sea-Wolf, based on Jack London), Hommes à la mer (Men at Sea, loosely adapted from Conrad, Hodgson, Poe, Schwob, and Stevenson), and Vagabond des Étoiles (The Star Rover), also based on Jack London.
