Will Restrospective

Following the success of the auction dedicated to the artist in 2025, the Daniel Maghen Gallery and the Maltaite family are presenting the finest exhibition of Will’s work since the 2017 retrospective. It will showcase the artist’s most iconic series and albums through a collection of 80 works, including comic strips, album covers and covers for "Spirou" magazine, as well as original paintings and illustrations, in a retrospective spanning his 40-year career (1957–1996).

A leading figure at "Spirou" magazine, trained by Jijé, Will illustrated the adventures of "Tif and Tondu", created the "Isabelle" series, and brought to life one of the greatest villains in the history of comics, Monsieur Choc. His immense talent led him to collaborate with the greatest artists and scriptwriters of the ‘9th Art’, including Delporte, Desberg, Franquin, Macherot, Peyo, Rosy and Tillieux.

Conceived as a retrospective journey, the exhibition will first immerse visitors in the adventures of Tif and Tondu and Isabelle, featuring a collection of iconic original covers and artwork that trace the Golden Age of his career at "Spirou" magazine. It will also highlight his talent as a painter and illustrator with a series of "Belles de Will" (watercolour paintings and illustrations), before concluding with his delicate colour palette as seen in the panels from "Le Jardin des désirs", "L’Appel de l’enfer", "La 27e lettre" and "À la découverte de l’Europe", combining watercolour, Indian ink and gouache on paper.
