Pierre Duba’s work is the fruit of a rigorous artistic exploration, making his oeuvre unique, surprising and defying categorisation. Halfway between comic art and illustration, Pierre Duba breaks free from conventions to create his own medium at the crossroads of genres.
To preserve your works on paper, we recommend that you never expose them to direct light, as UV rays can damage the mediums used. Paintings made with pastel or charcoal require special care to avoid rubbing.
We advise you to display them away from windows, and to use frames made from pH-neutral conservation materials and “Museum” glass with anti-UV and anti-reflective treatment. If you prefer to keep your works unframed, we recommend storing them flat, in drawing cartons, with sheets of pH-neutral permanent paper in between. Keep them away from light and humidity.
Born in 1960 in Bradford and raised in Alsace, Pierre Duba enrolled at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Strasbourg in 1981 before turning his hand to illustration and comic art. His free-flowing drawing style, unbound by any stylistic conventions and always in motion, is widely regarded as one of the most unique in contemporary comic art. His exploration of the visual image has led him to make films — literary adaptations, fiction, travelogues and autobiographical reflections — which extend the scope of his books by offering a different relationship with time. As a visual artist, he makes the letter his primary subject of exploration and uses it as a tool to create large-scale pencil frescoes exploring Humanity, its identity and its innermost nature.
