The Daniel Maghen Gallery is delighted to dedicate an exhibition to two masters of crime comics: Tibet with Ric Hochet and Bernard Vrancken with I.R.$ published by Lombard, from November 19 to December 7, 2019.

Detective and Agent: Two Worlds That Intersect

A classic of Franco-Belgian comics from the 1960s and 1970s, Tibet soon established himself as one of the pillars of Tintin magazine, thanks in particular to the success of Ric Hochet, his iconic series written by André-Paul Duchâteau. With 78 volumes, millions of copies sold and translations into seven languages, the thrilling investigations of Ric Hochet, a young journalist-detective, combine realism and humor with superb chase scenes that only Tibet could create. The exhibition brings together nearly ninety original pages, mainly from the early period, some of which show our hero Ric at the wheel of his Porsche.

It bears a similarity with I.R.$, Bernard Vrancken's flagship series written by Stephen Desberg, which also treats us to sensational scenes behind the wheel with the famous and charismatic US tax agent Larry B. Max. This exciting thriller takes us to the heart of the biggest financial scandals, an unmissable series in twenty volumes that has sold two million copies, making Vrancken a classic of the genre from 2000 to 2020. One cannot help but appreciate the elegance of his clear line, which beautifully serves the realism of the story, in over one hundred original artworks brought together for this retrospective, organized to showcase the series' twentieth anniversary. Around twenty original pages in Indian ink and wash, initially created for the gallery and finally published in October 2019 in the special edition Les Dossiers Max (published by Le Lombard), will also be on display.

Daniel Maghen, the Tibet family, Bernard Vrancken, and Stephen Desberg are delighted to invite you to the opening of their exhibition on Thursday, November 21, from 7 p.m.
