Realism at the Service of the Story

Bernard Vrancken was born in 1965 in Ixelles, Belgium. At the age of 15, he won a competition organized by the Academy of Fine Arts, which gave him the opportunity to meet André Franquin and Yvan Delporte. At just 16, he began publishing major historical epics in Tintin magazine.

Although he found little inspiration in the Architecture program at Saint-Luc, he regularly attended Eddy Paape's classes at the Saint-Gilles Academy. There he met Stephen Desberg, who would naturally become his long-time scriptwriter. Together, they created around ten short stories and novellas for the magazine (À SUIVRE), followed by the romantic saga Le Sang Noir (Black Blood, Le Lombard), before conceiving I.R.$. for Le Lombard's Troisième Vague collection.

In 2023, the duo published Les Enfants du ciel with Editions Daniel Maghen, followed by Nouvelle France in 2026.

Enhanced by masterful coloring, his artwork brings out both the brutality of battle and the raw beauty of vast landscapes.
