Enrique Fernandez

Enrique Fernández’s artwork combines superb technical skill with a sense of movement honed during his years as a storyboard artist for Spanish animation. An accomplished colorist, he constructs his pages using broad, nuanced blocks of color that lend volume and atmosphere to grand, spectacular scenes, without ever sacrificing the expressiveness of his characters.

To preserve your works on paper, we recommend that you never expose them to direct light, as UV rays can damage the mediums used. Paintings made with pastel or charcoal require special care to avoid rubbing. Works containing watercolor are particularly sensitive to light, unlike gouache and acrylic.
We advise you to display them away from windows, and to use frames made from pH-neutral conservation materials and “Museum” glass with anti-UV and anti-reflective treatment. If you prefer to keep your works unframed, we recommend storing them flat, in drawing cartons, with sheets of pH-neutral permanent paper in between. Keep them away from light and humidity.

Enrique Fernández began studying at art school but dropped out to train in animation in 1995, having been deeply influenced by the film Pocahontas. Then, he worked on several productions at the Filmax studio, notably providing the storyboards for the feature films El Cid (El Cid: The Legend) and Nocturna. From 2004 onwards, he turned his attention to the French comic art market with Les Libérateurs (The Liberators), published by Paquet, before collaborating with scriptwriter David Chauvel on a highly acclaimed adaptation of The Wizard of Oz for Delcourt, which earned him the Grand Prix de la ville de Lyon in 2006. He then wrote his first solo script with La Mère des Victoires (The Mother of Victories), before publishing L’Île sans sourire (The Island Without a Smile), Aurore and Les Contes de l’ère du Cobra (Tales of the Cobra Era). Recognized by critics for the originality and vivid imagination of his worlds, he created the children’s diptych Hammerdam in 2021. That same year, he launched Limbo Hotel via the crowdfunding platform Spaceman Project; the album, published in 2023 in three languages, confirmed his ability to spearhead independent projects.
