Philippe Gauckler

Philippe Gauckler was born in 1960 in Lyon. In 1982, after briefly studying architecture and attending the School of Applied Arts, he began his career by illustrating short stories by Charles Imbert for Métal Hurlant, which were later compiled into two graphic novels, Suicide Commando and Duel. In 1984, he published the first pages of Blue in Métal Hurlant, a science-fiction saga adapted from the novel by Joël Houssin. Beginning in 1985, alongside his work in comic art, Gauckler started a thriving career as an illustrator in Je Bouquine, which he continued in Journal de Mickey and on the covers of the Présence du Futur series. In 1990, he launched the Convoi series with Thierry Smolderen (four volumes published by Les Humanoïdes Associés). He then worked in advertising before returning in 2006 with Prince Lao, a children’s series and his first solo series. Through Prince Lao, he shares his love for the flora and fauna of exotic landscapes, mountainous plateaus, and majestic peaks. In 2015, he joined Lombard’s Troisième Vague collection with Koralovski, a high-tension thriller featuring the Russian mafia and oligarchs. In 2019 and 2021, he published the two-volume series KEBEK with Éditions Daniel Maghen, a science fiction story rendered entirely in direct color.
