Epic daydream

Born in 1972, Julien Delval is a graduate of the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs in Paris. He began his career as an illustrator working in the role-playing game industry for Multisim. The contacts he made there led him to create numerous covers for adult and children’s novels for various publishers (Bragelonne, Flammarion, Fleuve Noir, France Loisirs, Gründ, Pocket, Seuil and Mnémos). Still active in the world of games, primarily with the publisher Days of Wonder, and following a stint in comic art (Les Petits soldats, The Little Soldiers, published by Vents d’Ouest), he now devotes himself to more personal works. In these, he depicts ancient, mythological and fantastical worlds inspired by classical painting and 20th-century imagery. With Caurette, he published a monograph in 2020 and the illustrated book Othello by William Shakespeare in 2022, before turning his hand to A Midsummer Night’s Dream in 2026.
