With the Long John Silver series, Mathieu Lauffray immediately established himself among the best artists of his generation. His experience as a concept artist for film and video games proved to be a perfect fit for this ambitious story, in which Xavier Dorison reinterprets one of the greatest classics of adventure fiction. His art follows in the long tradition of Franco-Belgian realism, evoking the flair and freedom of line found in the work of Jean Giraud and Régis Loisel, as well as the stark, mineral quality of William Vance.
To preserve your works on paper, we recommend that you never expose them to direct light, as UV rays can damage the mediums used. Paintings made with pastel or charcoal require special care to avoid rubbing.
We advise you to display them away from windows, and to use frames made from pH-neutral conservation materials and “Museum” glass with anti-UV and anti-reflective treatment. If you prefer to keep your works unframed, we recommend storing them flat, in drawing cartons, with sheets of pH-neutral permanent paper in between. Keep them away from light and humidity.
Born in 1970 in Paris, Mathieu Lauffray studied at the École des Arts Décoratifs, where he met Frédéric Contremarche and Denis Bajram, before publishing his first graphic novel, Le Serment de l’ambre (The Amber Oath), in 1995. As an illustrator for Star Wars comics and video games, he began collaborating with director Christophe Gans in 1997, notably on Le Pacte des loups (Brotherhood of the Wolf). Since 2020, he has been working solo on the Raven series at Dargaud. Complete biography.
