Created in 1954 by Jijé for Le Journal de Spirou, the series features Jerry Spring and his loyal companion Pancho. Together, they travel across the American West, facing bandits, smugglers, rebellious Native Americans, and criminals of all kinds. A courageous hero loyal to humanist ideals, Jerry Spring never hesitates to defend the helpless and proudly upholds the values of justice and tolerance. Graphically, the series marks a turning point: Jijé broke away from the rigid conventions of the Western genre in favor of a lively and dynamic style, entirely in black and white, whose fluid linework beautifully captures action scenes and the landscapes of the American West. Considered a classic of the Ninth Art, the series remains a major reference, both for its innovative approach and its influence on several generations of creators.
