Paolo Serpieri

Paolo Serpieri is a leading erotic artist. His artwork, like that of Manara and Liberatore, defined an era – the 1980s to the 2000s – when Italian comics produced the world’s finest erotic albums. Whilst adhering to a certain standard of eroticism, Serpieri breaks away from stereotypes with his heroine – an innocent yet voluptuous figure who is at the same time animalistic, wild and hungry for freedom. 

Buoyed by the global success of the Druuna series—with nearly one million copies sold since 1985—Serpieri’s original artwork is highly sought after by collectors who admire his technical and sensuous drawing style. It is not uncommon to see certain Druuna art pages fetch high prices, such as page No. 50 from Clone (Vol. 8), which sold for €12,500 at the Daniel Maghen Auction House in 2025. 

To preserve your works on paper, we recommend that you never expose them to direct light, as UV rays can damage the mediums used. Paintings made with pastel or charcoal require special care to avoid rubbing.
We advise you to display them away from windows, and to use frames made from pH-neutral conservation materials and “Museum” glass with anti-UV and anti-reflective treatment. If you prefer to keep your works unframed, we recommend storing them flat, in drawing cartons, with sheets of pH-neutral permanent paper in between. Keep them away from light and humidity.

Paolo Eleuteri Serpieri was born in Venice on 29 February 1944, but moved to Rome at a very early age. After studying drawing, he became a pupil of Renato Guttuso and devoted himself to painting. It was not until 1975, whilst creating a few stories for the Italian comic magazine Lanciostory, that he entered the world of comic art. A great fan of Westerns, he contributed to the creation of L’Histoire du Far West for Larousse and launched the series I grandi miti del West in the pages of Skorpio. These various series established Serpieri as one of the masters of realism. From 1985 onwards, he made a radical shift in genre by creating Morbus Gravis, the first volume of the Druuna stories. Spanning eight volumes (1985–2003), the series became a benchmark in erotic science-fiction comic art and brought Serpieri to the attention of the general public. Complete biography
