Paul & Gaëtan Brizzi

As grand masters of illustration and comic art, the Brizzi brothers’ artwork unfolds in stunning original pages and large-format illustrations rendered in black and white using wax pencils, created collaboratively ; Gaëtan handles the backgrounds and Paul the characters. Their semi-realistic style draws inspiration from the conventions of 19th-century engraving. The interplay of scale and composition, along with the striking contrasts between light and shadow, lends an ethereal atmosphere to their work, which is always imbued with fantasy and a dreamlike quality.

To preserve your works on paper, we recommend that you never expose them to direct light, as UV rays can damage the mediums used. Paintings made with pastel or charcoal require special care to avoid rubbing. Works containing watercolor are particularly sensitive to light, unlike gouache and acrylic.
We advise you to display them away from windows, and to use frames made from pH-neutral conservation materials and “Museum” glass with anti-UV and anti-reflective treatment. If you prefer to keep your works unframed, we recommend storing them flat, in drawing cartons, with sheets of pH-neutral permanent paper in between. Keep them away from light and humidity.

Born in 1951, twin brothers Gaëtan and Paul Brizzi studied at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris before making a name for themselves in the world of animation. Their short film Fracture was nominated for a César Award for Best Animated Short Film in 1978, marking the beginning of an international career. After working on several productions, including the adaptation of Astérix et la Surprise de César (Asterix Versus Caesar), they opened their own animation studio. 
When Disney acquired the studio, they moved to the United States, where they contributed to The Hunchback of Notre-Dame and Fantasia 2000. After a stint at DreamWorks, they regained their artistic independence and returned to France.
