Arzach

First published in 1975 in the inaugural issues of Métal Hurlant, Arzach made an immediate impact. Featuring a silent hero riding a pterodactyl through breathtaking landscapes, battling hostile creatures, an encroaching wilderness, and unpredictable technology, Mœbius created one of the great enigmas of the Ninth Art.
Breaking away from traditional storytelling conventions, he developed a purely visual narrative, granting readers complete freedom of interpretation. In stark contrast to his iconic series Blueberry, Giraud freed himself from established conventions and, through Arzach, gave birth to Mœbius —his alter ego, defined by artistic freedom and perfectly attuned to the spirit of innovation transforming comics at the time.
A true genre-defying phenomenon, regularly reissued and celebrated, Arzach remains a cult classic and an enduring symbol of Mœbius’s graphic and narrative freedom.
