The Daniel Maghen Gallery is delighted to dedicate its next exhibition to two talented authors, Patrick Prugne, on the occasion of the release of his album Vanikoro (published by Daniel Maghen), and Steve Cuzor, with his graphic novel Cinq branches de coton noir (published by Dupuis), from October 30 to November 17, 2018.
A splendid tale of maritime adventure
Following on from the success of Iroquois and Pawnee, Patrick Prugne reveals his talent in Vanikoro, a superb album combining human adventure and the clash of civilizations. The author lifts the veil on the mystery surrounding the shipwreck of the La Pérouse expedition, which ran aground on the island of Vanikoro in June 1788. In light of recent discoveries surrounding this tragedy, Patrick Prugne recounts his vision of the fate of the survivors of La Boussole and L'Astrolabe through artworks created entirely in watercolor, inspired by the flamboyant colors of this perilous coral archipelago. A splendid tale of maritime adventure to be discovered through some fifty pages and illustrations.
A gripping historical tale to life
On another note, the exhibition highlights Steve Cuzor's superb inking artwork for Cinq branches de coton noir (published by Dupuis). Acclaimed by the critics and the public, the artist, at the height of his art, powerfully and expressively depicts this thrilling historical tale by Yves Sente, set against a backdrop of racial segregation and the struggle for civil rights. His powerful and realistic style captures both the cold stillness of the snow-covered Ardennes forests and the dynamism of a battalion of Panzers crushing everything in their path. The exhibition presents some sixty pages and illustrations from this album, which marks a new stage in the author's career.
