The Daniel Maghen Gallery is delighted to dedicate an exhibition to two talented authors, Didier Cassegrain for Nymphéas noirs (published by Dupuis) and Conan, Les Clous rouges (Red Nails, published by Glénat, forthcoming), and Gaétan Nocq for Le Rapport W (published by Daniel Maghen), from June 11 to July 20, 2019 (extended from August 20 to 24, 2019).
A magical display of colors and stunning light effects
With Fred Duval as scriptwriter, Didier Cassegrain offers a superb comic art adaptation of Michel Bussi's masterpiece: Nymphéas noirs. The story, linked to the world of painter Claude Monet, takes place in the bucolic setting of the village of Giverny. A luminous and breathless thriller, perfectly rendered by the artist's bold lines and superb acrylic coloring enhanced with pencil. In the style of an impressionist, Cassegrain works each page like a painting, offering a feast of colors and sumptuous plays of light. The exhibition will also unveil a selection of original pages and illustrations from his eagerly awaited upcoming Conan album, Les Clous rouges (written by Hautière & Vatine), as well as artworks created especially for the gallery, the result of a three-month work on Tao Bang (published by Delcourt) and the Pin Up universe.
The Daniel Maghen Gallery is also proud to present the artwork of the talented Gaétan Nocq based on his latest album, Le Rapport W (published by Daniel Maghen), a comic art adaptation of the document entitled Le Rapport Pilecki, written in 1945 by the Pole Witold Pilecki. Nocq tells the story of this cavalry captain, a member of the Polish underground army, who voluntarily interned himself in Auschwitz in September 1940 to organize a resistance network and stage an uprising. It is a terrible story, which he handles remarkably well through delicate artworks and a subtle use of color that punctuates the entire album.
