Dave Cooper

A self-taught comic artist and painter, Dave Cooper is a key figure in the surrealist POP movement and the underground comics scene. His inimitable graphic style plays with shapes, textures, and colors, creating phantasmagorical scenes that border on a pictorial trance. Wild, unrestrained, and psychedelic, his work shocks the mind and leaves a lasting impression.

Acclaimed by his peers, Dave Cooper is particularly sought after on the international scene, with his work collected by numerous artists, including Guillermo del Toro.

To preserve your works on paper, we recommend that you never expose them to direct light, as UV rays can damage the mediums used. Paintings made with pastel or charcoal require special care to avoid rubbing. Works containing watercolor are particularly sensitive to light, unlike gouache and acrylic.
We advise you to display them away from windows, and to use frames made from pH-neutral conservation materials and “Museum” glass with anti-UV and anti-reflective treatment. If you prefer to keep your works unframed, we recommend storing them flat, in drawing cartons, with sheets of pH-neutral permanent paper in between. Keep them away from light and humidity.

Dave Cooper (born in 1967, Shelburne, Canada) is a Canadian comic artist and painter, and a leading figure in the Surrealist Pop movement and the underground comics scene. A self-taught artist influenced by the work of Robert Crumb and Chester Brown, Dave Cooper began his career in the 1990s by creating underground comics for Fantagraphics Books in Seattle. In 1999, he published the first issue of his series Weasel, which won both the Ignatz Award and the Harvey Award in 2000. Each issue of this series consists of short chapters featuring eclectic projects. Encyclopedia Nonsensica appears alongside the vaudevillian episodes of Eddy Table and the much more realistic ones of Ripple: A Predilection for Tina. This latter project, reissued as an album by Fantagraphics, brought him widespread recognition.  Complete biography.
