An excellent technician, trained in classical drawing and perspective, his precise and well-researched line—which blends academic precision with narrative imagination—is perfectly suited to any subject. His favorite technique focuses on the sketchbook, which he elevates to another level with extremely detailed drawings where documentary rigour serves the literary imagination.

To preserve your works on paper, we recommend that you never expose them to direct light, as UV rays can damage the mediums used. Paintings made with pastel or charcoal require special care to avoid rubbing. Works containing watercolor are particularly sensitive to light, unlike gouache and acrylic.
We advise you to display them away from windows, and to use frames made from pH-neutral conservation materials and “Museum” glass with anti-UV and anti-reflective treatment. If you prefer to keep your works unframed, we recommend storing them flat, in drawing cartons, with sheets of pH-neutral permanent paper in between. Keep them away from light and humidity.

Born in 1981, Armel Gaulme is a graduate of Penninghen/Académie Julian, where he now teaches classical drawing and perspective. Inspired by Alan Lee, John Howe and the European illustrators of the early 20th century, he initially illustrated several children’s series for Le Baron Perché (The Perched Baron) under the direction of Maylis de Kerangal, and later for Casterman and Bayard, before turning his hand to audiovisual pre-production — including video games, animation and advertising. At the same time, he teaches at several art schools and in his own studio. Remaining true to his passion for drawing on paper, he published BESTiary (Caurette, 2018) and illustrated, in the form of watercolor sketchbooks, seminal works of fantasy literature: H.P.
