Trilogie Nikopol

Composed of three graphic novels created by Enki Bilal between 1980 and 1993 (La Foire aux immortels (God in Chaos), La Femme piège (The Woman Trap), and Froid Équateur (Cold Equator), La Trilogie Nikopol has established itself as one of the pillars of 1980s speculative fiction comic art. Written during the Cold War, the trilogy drew inspiration from its creator’s own life and imagines a dystopian Paris marked by deep pessimism. Between political conflicts, shortages, media control, and divine interference, trilogy possesses a unique atmosphere, driven by Enki Bilal’s innovative visual identity: a dark and oppressive mood, rigid and haunting characters, and a muted color palette punctuated by vivid and shimmering touches. The perfect harmony between its themes and its visual expression made Bilal one of the cult figures of contemporary comic art, and The Nikopol Trilogy his most famous creation, earning him the Grand Prix at Angoulême in 1987.
