Lone Sloane

Lone Sloane first appeared in 1966 in Le Mystère des Abîmes (Éric Losfeld editions). A solitary interstellar traveler with red eyes, Sloane wanders through a hostile universe populated by dark gods, space pirates, and entities from other dimensions. In this cosmic odyssey imagined by Philippe Druillet, Sloane is the ultimate modern-day Ulysses, facing countless dangers without ever finding rest. The almost dreamlike script is unlike anything else and even merges with classical literature by drawing inspiration from Flaubert’s Salammbô. With this cult series, Druillet created an entirely new vision of science fiction: Baroque, excessive, and monumental, where panels explode into splash pages overflowing with detail. Combining visionary artwork with mystical imagination, this visual shockwave influenced generations of creators, including George Lucas, and made Lone Sloane a cornerstone of French science-fiction comic art.
