Gatignol and Schwartz Exhibition

Les Ogres-Dieux, a four-volume medieval fantasy fable created by Hubert (writer of Peau d'Homme), highlights Bertrand Gatignol's immense graphic talent. A dynasty of ogres reigns supreme over the world of men. Far from being able to confront them, humans have become their servants and even their food. It took genius to bring this story to life. Constantly playing with different scales, Bertrand Gatignol brings a world of giants to life, inventing the most dizzying architecture, ferocious characters of all sizes and sumptuous settings. For this very first exhibition at the Daniel Maghen Gallery, Bertrand Gatignol has decided to return to his paintbrushes. Accustomed to digital tools, he has revisited the most beautiful original pages and covers from volumes 1 and 2 to present them in a traditional format, along with the original pages from volumes 3 and 4. He thus unveils some sixty originals of exceptional quality, with finely drawn lines combined with majestic black and gray flat tints. The exhibition also pays tribute to the talent and boundless imagination of Hubert, who passed away in 2020.

On the occasion of the exhibition, around twenty artists are paying tribute to Bertrand Gatignol and Hubert's Les Ogres-Dieux, through a series of original, previously unpublished artworks and an object (a knife) inspired by the universe, signed by: Virginie Augustin, Guillaume Bianco, Paul Burckel, Arthur de Pins, Laurent Gapaillard, Armel Gaulme, Gaëlle Hersent, Benjamin Kamon, Clément Lefèvre, Patricia Lyfoung, Marion Montaigne, Anne Montel, Jérémie Moreau, Willy Ohm, Philippe Pochep, Lionel Richerand, Ruppert & Mulot, Olivier Vatine, Bastien Vivès, and Zanzim.

After bringing the adventures of the famous Spirou to life (Le Groom vert-de-gris, La Femme-léopard and Le Maître des hosties noires), Olivier Schwartz and Yann are reviving the tradition of noir crime fiction with their Atom Agency series. With colorful dialogue and post-war slang, Olivier Schwartz brings the adventures of private detective Atom to life and transports us into the atmosphere of 1950s Paris in the Armenian Diaspora. His graphic style unfolds in superb black-and-white pages with impeccable inking and meticulous layout. The exhibition features around sixty originals, including original pages, covers, color and black-and-white illustrations from the series, as well as original artworks from the three Spirou albums. It is an opportunity to admire the exceptional artwork of one of the most talented artists of his generation.
