The Daniel Maghen Gallery is proud to host the first retrospective dedicated to the artwork of Antonio Hernández Palacios (1921-2000).

First Exhibition of a Western Master

Antonio Hernández Palacios is one of the most brilliant artists of the Spanish school. After thirty years of a prolific career as a painter and advertising designer, he turned to the ninth art in collaboration with the magazine Trinca, which was impressed by his artwork. His style is in line with Spanish drawing tradition, represented by renowned artists such as Victor De La Fuente, whom he worked alongside at the magazine.

Recognized for his artwork thanks to the success of his series Manos Kelly—a Western saga—and Le Cid—a historical adventure—he teamed up with Jean-Pierre Gourmelen to bring to life the legendary Mac Coy, which would go on to include 21 albums.

The collection of originals on display, comprising around seventy pages from his flagship series, pays tribute to the talent of this master of black and white and direct color with an explosive palette. With precise, hatched lines, Palacios creates striking effects of volume and relief that perfectly convey the vertigo of wide open spaces. His generous style, supported by detailed and baroque graphics, combines pictorial beauty with masterful storytelling.

Daniel Maghen and Carmen Ochoa de Palacios are delighted to invite you to the exhibition opening on Friday, September 30, from 7 p.m.
