From November 18 to December 9, 2023, the Daniel Maghen Gallery is proud to present the very first retrospective dedicated to the work of Éric Puybaret, a brilliant children's comic artist with a career spanning more than 20 years.
Immerse yourself in a poetic journey
A talented French painter, Éric Puybaret has illustrated more than 50 children's books, worked with leading publishers in France and the United States, and sold more than two million books worldwide. For the very first time, Éric Puybaret is offering for sale the artworks that have marked his career over the past 20 years.
The exhibition unveils around a hundred artworks from numerous books such as Alice in Wonderland, Les Échasses rouges, Pandore cette nuit, Les Contes du réveil matin, La belle et la bête, and more. The artist is also showcasing previously unseen paintings and the original color pages from his very first comic album: Les Antres (T.1).
Éric Puybaret's dreamlike paintings take viewers on a poetic journey to the realm of dreams, populated by marvelous creatures, fantastical characters, and extraordinary cities. His stylized, refined, and elegant graphic language, combined with a delicate color palette and a unique painting technique on fabric, give his work a fascinating dimension that appeals to young and old alike.
