From April 9 to May 4, 2024, the Daniel Maghen Gallery is proud to dedicate an exhibition to two talented artists, Emmanuel Bazin for his diptych Mauvaise Réputation and Franck Bonnet for his series USS Constitution

Two masters of precision

Mauvaise Réputation tells the true story of the Daltons in a realistic western tinged with melancholy. Inspired by the style of Edward Hopper, Emmanuel Bazin offers a masterful graphic representation of this story, which depicts a demythologized American West. His artworks, executed in wash and sepia tones, evoke old photographs, while his use of light gives them a striking depth. His skillful framing highlights the vast expanses, and the realistic settings are rendered with almost documentary precision. For the first time, the gallery is proud to display Emmanuel Bazin's artwork, through a selection of original pages from the two albums in the series, as well as artworks created especially for this exhibition.

With USS Constitution, Franck Bonnet, illustrator of Les Pirates de Barataria, joins the ranks of today's greatest realist marine artists, alongside Emmanuel Lepage and Patrice Pellerin. A master of black and white, Franck Bonnet brings the great frigates of the early 19th century back to life in this historical tale, which he wrote and illustrated. From stern to bow, Franck Bonnet knows every corner of these gigantic warships. His artworks stand out as much for their scholarly knowledge as for their stunningly realistic inking, transporting us to another century. The exhibition features for the first time the original pages of USS Constitution as well as a series of artworks in an exceptional format created especially for the exhibition. It will also be an opportunity to preview the original pages from his new series on Ann Bonny, the greatest female pirate in history.
