The Daniel Maghen gallery is proud to present a retrospective dedicated to André Juillard, from February to 22, 2020, for the release of the latest album of Léna, his series with Pierre Christin (published by Dargaud), and following the success of the special Juillard catalogue at the auction organized by Daniel Maghen in October 2019.
A leading figure in the world of comics
The exhibition traces the career of one of the greatest realistic artists of the 9th Art, a key figure in the history of comic art in the 1980s and winner of the Grand Prix de la Ville d'Angoulême in 1996. More than 300 originals, including pages, illustrations, and covers from his cult series Blake and Mortimer, Le Cahier bleu, Plume aux vents, Les 7 vies de l'épervier, as well as Arno, Double 7, Léna, Masquerouge, Mezek, and Le Triangle secret, will be on display, providing an opportunity to admire the clarity of his lines and the skill of this master draftsman and outstanding colorist. André Juillard is also unveiling a series of more intimate illustrations and sketches, including portraits of his most famous heroines, such as Ariane, Louise, and Léna, whom he wanted to portray as free and independent, as well as captivating, enigmatic and sensual. Finally, and for the very first time, the artist's personal sketchbooks will be on display. They will be published by Daniel Maghen in May.
