The Daniel Maghen Gallery is proud to dedicate an exhibition to two talented artists: Alessandro Barbucci for his series Ekhö monde miroir (published by Soleil) and Alberto Varanda for his album La Mort vivante (published by Comix Buro), from May 17 to June 11, 2022.

An exhibition blending heroic fantasy and science fiction

The exhibition looks back at the entire Ekhö monde miroir heroic fantasy saga, the eleventh volume of which is due to be published, drawn by Barbucci, written by Arleston and colored by Nolwenn Lebreton, through a selection of around a hundred original pages and covers, as well as artworks created especially for the occasion. The series follows the adventures of Fourmille Gratule, a beautiful and seductive young woman with a strong character. Accompanied by Yuri, the heroine finds herself propelled into a parallel world, similar to ours but completely different and populated by all kinds of incredible creatures. The medieval fantasy aspect of the universe fits perfectly with Barbucci's style, offering us a fantastical and delirious vision of our world. Central Park is teeming with monsters while dragons fly over New York. The artist's graphic style is also evident in his gallery of characters, particularly in the generous curves of his oh-so-alluring heroines. The Sky-Doll comic artist once again demonstrates the extent of his talent and the virtuosity of his style with this funny, sexy, and entertaining story.

The exhibition also highlights Alberto Varanda's exceptional artwork on his album La Mort Vivante, written by Olivier Vatine, an adaptation of Stefan Wul's science fiction novel published in 1958. This graphic masterpiece is the result of three years of work, and for good reason: the virtuoso artist set himself a new challenge and opted for a graphic style of rare sophistication reminiscent of engraving. The result is stunning, giving the album an impressive realism that lends itself perfectly to the story. With a Victorian atmosphere, neo-Gothic settings, and characters and creatures straight out of the best macabre tales of the 19th century, Alberto Varanda displays extraordinary graphic generosity. A series of oil paintings created for the album will also be on display, alongside freehand drawings and beautiful portraits of women sketched from life in recent years. This collection will allow visitors to admire the virtuosity of this multi-faceted artist.
