The elegance of watercolour in the service of 20th-century history

Éric Warnauts was born in 1960 in Cologne, and Guy Servais, known as Raives, was born in 1959 in Liège. They met while Raives was still a student. More than just a professional relationship, the two artists developed over time a deep friendship and a collaborative working style: they created storylines and illustrations as a duo, with Warnauts writing the dialogue and Raives handling the coloring. Together, they have published more than forty albums, including the series Les Suites Vénitiennes, L’Orfèvre (The Goldsmith), Purple Heart, Ciel d’orages (Stormy Skies), and the grand historical epic that begins with Les Temps nouveaux (The New Era) and continues with Après-Guerre (Post-War) and Les Jours heureux (The Happy Days). They also published the one-shot Congo 40, reissued in 2024 by Éditions Daniel Maghen under the title Congo Blanc (White Congo).
