Philippe Matter

Philippe Matter studied graphic design and illustration at the École supérieure des arts décoratifs in Strasbourg, before becoming a freelance illustrator in 1982. It was in 1990 that he created the character that would make him famous:  Mini-Loup, a mischievous young wolf whose adventures, full of tenderness and humor, immediately won over young readers. The series, published by Hachette Jeunesse, now comprises nearly thirty books and has established itself as a classic of French-language children’s comic art, alongside other leading figures in the genre. Remaining faithful to Alsace, where he has lived in Dorlisheim for several decades, Philippe Matter continues to write and illustrate the stories of Mini-Loup, alongside his friends Anicet, Mini-Pic and Didi the rabbit. A regular presence at children’s book festivals and fairs alongside other children’s illustrators, he embodies a gentle and accessible style of comic art, designed to speak directly to the hearts of the youngest readers.
