Paul Bonner

As a child, discovering The Hobbit (Bilbo the Hobbit), Scandinavian folktales, and Arthur Rackham's artwork forged his imagination. He trained for four years at the Harrow School of Art before launching his career as a freelance illustrator in London. Spotted by Games Workshop, he became one of the iconic artists of the early editions of Warhammer Fantasy Battle and Warhammer 40,000, helping to visually shape these universes. He followed this with Mutant Chronicles and then The Shadowrun role-playing game for FASA, before collaborating with Riotminds and the French miniature company Rackham on Confrontation. Starting in 2008, he created illustrations for the card game Magic: The Gathering, and later for the Nordic role-playing game Trudvang. Long based in Copenhagen, he has seen his work regularly published in the prestigious American anthology Spectrum since 2000. His creations have been compiled into several artbooks, including Out of the Forests followed by Down from the Mountains, celebrating the immense scope of his influence on contemporary fantasy art.
