Lelong

Jean-Marc Lelong (1949–2004) was a French comic artist. He created the series Carmen Cru for the magazine Fluide glacial. After traveling in Africa during the 1970s, Lelong returned to France at the request of the editor-in-chief of the magazine Pif, who asked to meet with him. After numerous unsuccessful projects for that magazine, Lelong decided to take his artwork elsewhere… This led to the publication of the first adventure in the Monsieur Emile series in the magazine Pilote, based on a script by Christian Barré. But it was in 1982 that Lelong’s talent really captivated the general public thanks to Fluide Glacial, where he quickly became a mainstay with his elderly heroine, Carmen Cru. This series, published regularly starting in 1984, comprises seven albums, the last of which was released in 2001. Jean-Marc Lelong took his own life on February 24, 2004, in Tours. Later that year, the publisher discovered unpublished artwork in Lelong’s archives, which was used to compile an eighth and final posthumous album, published in 2008.
