Efa

Efa was born in 1976 in Sabadell, Spain. After dropping out of high school and giving up his studies in graphic design, Efa decided to be his own teacher. For years, the artist drew and played guitar with various rock bands. In 1995, he created his first fanzine, Realitat Virtual, with friends. From that point on, he worked at an animation studio while also working as a freelance illustrator. Efa entered the world of comic art through a collaboration with Toni Termens on the script for Les Icariades (3 volumes and a complete collection), published by Paquet in 2001. With the same publisher, he launched the series Rodriguez (2 volumes) in 2002, followed by L’Âme du vin (The Soul of Wine) in 2004, for which he served as both scriptwriter and artist. Between 2007, and 2009, he drew and colored the series Kia Ora (3 volumes published by Vents d’Ouest) based on a script by Olivier Jouvray and Virginie Ollagnier. In 2008, he joined the Alter Ego team for the graphic novel Darius. In 2011, Efa published the two volumes of the Yerzhan series with Régis Hautière through Delcourt. He then returned for the second season of Alter Ego, illustrating three more volumes. In 2014, he published Le Soldat (The Soldier) with Olivier Jouvray through Éditions Le Lombard. With the same publisher, he created Monet, nomade de la lumière (Monet: Itinerant of Light) alongside Salva Rubio (2017); the graphic novel was nominated for an Eisner Award. Efa then worked with Denis Lapière on Seule (2018, published by Futuropolis). Still collaborating with Lapière, he contributed short stories to the second volume of the Marsupilami anthology published by Dupuis. In 2020, Efa joined the prestigious Aire libre series with Rubio and Django Main de feu (Django, Hand on Fire), a remarkable biography dedicated to the early life of the famous musician Django Reinhardt. The graphic novel features a foreword by a master of gypsy jazz: Thomas Dutronc. Still collaborating with Rubio, Efa is now turning his attention to another artist: Degas. La danse de la solitude (Degas: The Dance of Solitude), a biopic in the vein of his Monet, is scheduled for release by Éditions Le Lombard.
