Edika

Edouard Carali, alias Edika, was born in 1940 in Heliopolis, Egypt. From a very young age, he was already drawing in the margins of his school notebooks, and his parents encouraged him to pursue drawing. Thus, after leaving Egypt with his family at the age of 19, he worked in Lebanon— —as a layout artist before becoming an advertising illustrator. Fifteen years later, he and his brother Paul Carali - also an illustrator-  planned to join their parents, who had emigrated to Canada. The two brothers stopped over in France, where they ultimately decided to settle. After a few odd jobs at children’s magazines, Edika contributed to Pilote, Charlie Mensuel and Psikopat, his brother Paul’s magazine. He finally joined Fluide Glacial in 1979 and quickly became one of its leading creators. Over the course of 41 years, he published 309 stories (totaling 1,870 pages of comic strips), 81 covers for Fluide Glacial magazine, and 37 graphic novels… Devoid of a script and improvised panel by panel, his stories are characterized by a deliberate lack of punchlines and drawn-out dialogue. Edika, after 36 graphic novels chronicling the incredible adventures of Clark Gaybeul the cat, Bronsky Proko, and his family, has become the undisputed master of “profoundikoum” absurd-debiloff humor.
