The painter of emotion
After training in printmaking, Claude K. Dubois went on to further her studies at the École supérieure des arts Saint-Luc in Liège, where she now runs an illustration workshop. A multi-talented artist, she paints, illustrates, sculpts and regularly exhibits her work in Belgium and abroad. Since the late 1980s, she has created over a hundred children’s picture books, translated into more than twenty languages, mainly published by L’École des loisirs. Together with the Belgian author Carl Norac, she has co-created around fifteen picture books, including Les Mots doux (1996), which won the Prix des Bibliothèques de France and enjoyed international acclaim. In 2012, she published Akim court, a poignant picture book about a child fleeing war, supported by Amnesty International and awarded the Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis and the Katholische Kinderbuchpreis in 2014. Her artwork, carried by beautifully soft watercolours, explores tenderness, emotions and inner life, always with empathy and beyond words.
