Christian Paty began his career as a rough artist at a communications agency before becoming an art director at an advertising agency in Rennes. At the same time, he pursued a career as an amateur comic artist and contributed to various contests and fanzines such as Tentacule (Tentacle) and Faille temporelle (Time Rift). His meeting with Tiburce Oger marked a major turning point in his career: beginning in 1997, he created two volumes of Damoiselle Gorge and the series L'Ange Olende (The Angel Olende). In 2001, he began a long-standing collaboration with the writer Ange at Soleil, starting with La Cicatrice du Souvenir (The Scar of Memory), Kookaburra Universe, and then the fifth volume of La Geste des Chevaliers Dragons (The Geste of the Dragon Knights). Under the pseudonym “Dzack,” he began publishing the humorous series Les Blondes in 2005, alongside writer Gaby and colorist Yoann Guillo.
He then diversified his work into documentary and historical comic art, notably with the series Nota Bene, adapted from Benjamin Brillaud’s YouTube channel, as well as Les Étoiles de l’Histoire (The Stars of History), based on a script by Bernard Swysen. Based in Montayral since 2008, he continues a prolific career spanning fantasy, humor, popular history, and children’s books. In 2023, Uluru – Une odyssée austral (Uluru – A Southern Odyssey) was published, based on a script by Crisse - a story halfway between a wildlife documentary and a coming-of-age adventure, brought to life by Paty’s lively artwork. He returned to solo work in 2024 with Le Voyage de Renn (Renn's Journey, Soleil), which he wrote, illustrated, and colored entirely on his own. Praised for the beauty of its Arctic landscapes and the expressiveness of its animal characters, this album highlights Paty’s penchant for animal fables with dual meanings, straddling the line between children's adventure and deeper storytelling.
