Alexis Dormal

Alexis Dormal has been drawing since he was very young and, at the age of six, created his own series inspired by The Smurfs. Initially enrolled at the Institut des arts de la diffusion in Louvain-la-Neuve, he eventually left Belgium to join the École Émile-Cohl in Lyon to study illustration. As soon as he finished his studies, he formed a partnership with his mother, the scriptwriter Dominique Roques. For two years, the mother-and-son duo worked together – one on the artwork, the other on the script – until they presented their work to Éditions Dargaud. Pico Bogue was born. With his round, expressive lines, Alexis Dormal brings to life the characters and stories imbued with poetry and his mother's wit. From its release in 2008, the series was a resounding success: the second volume of Pico Bogue won the Prix Saint-Michel de l’avenir in 2009. In 2012, Alexis Dormal and Dominique Roques created Ana Ana, a spin-off series centred on the hero’s little sister. In 2020, the twelfth volume of Pico Bogue, Inséparables, was shortlisted for the Fauve d’Or at the Angoulême International Comics Festival.
